Barbara Haimowitz speaks on her experience of being diagnosed with DCIS, ductal carcinoma in sutu, and the choices she made based on that diagnosis:


Anti-Cancer Salad/ Tahini Dressing Recipes

—bunch broccoli, including stems

—1 head cauliflower, including stems

—1 bag broccoli slaw

—1 cup shredded or julienned carrots

—½ cup sunflower seeds

—1 cup dried tart cherries or blueberries

—½ cup finely chopped fresh parsley

—½ cup yellow raisins

—In a food processor, process broccoli until very fine. Transfer to large bowl.

—Process the cauliflower until very fine and add to broccoli.

—Stir in the broccoli slaw, carrots, sunflower seeds, cherries, raisins, and parsley.

—Dress with Tangy Tahini Dressing or dressing of your choice. The juice of two lemons and a drizzle of maple syrup just before eating is a nice option.

—This keeps for several days in the refrigerator.

Tangy Tahini Dressing:

¼ cup tahini

1 heaping tablespoon yellow miso

2 garlic cloves

1 teaspoon turmeric

1/8 teaspoon cayenne

¾ teaspoon sea salt and ground pepper

Juice from 3 lemons

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons flax seed oil

Water as needed to thin

—Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. This also keeps in the refrigerator for weeks.
